Benefits and Salary

Salaries compare favorably with those of other resident positions in the community, and are re-negotiated every 3 years, with the next negotiations set for Spring 2025. Housing Stipend
Residents are entitled to an approximately $10,000 housing stipend each year to offset the cost of housing in Los Angeles.

Meals
Residents are provided $27 per day in the LA General Cafeteria to cover the cost of breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks.

Educational Stipend
Residents can apply for reimbursement for up to $1400 per year for educational costs through CIR, the resident union. Electronic access and print materials for MKSAP and PREP are provided free of charge to all residents through the respective categorical programs.

Vacation
Residents are entitled to 24 days paid vacation excluding weekend and holidays each year. Residents can choose to take vacation in either a one-month block or 2 two-week blocks.

Sick, Family and Medical Leave
Sick leave is accrued to a maximum of 8 days per year. Three of these 8 days may be used for personal days with permission of the Program Director. In compliance with the Family and Medical Leave Act, residents may take up to 12 weeks leave of absence, and per the ACGME 6 of those weeks are paid.

Call rooms
Each service provides call rooms for interns and residents. The call rooms include amenities such as beds, telephones, computers, printers, bathroom facilities and refrigerators (stocked daily with light meals, snack, and sodas).

Uniforms
White coats and scrubs are furnished and laundered by the hospital without charge.

National Program Memberships
The cost of membership to the American College of Physicians (ACP) and American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) is covered for all residents by the respective categorical programs. National Med-Peds Residents Association (NMPRA) membership is also covered.

Malpractice Insurance
Malpractice insurance is provided without charge for all resident physicians during training. This coverage also includes legal defense and protection against awards from claims reported or filed after the completion of graduate medical education if the alleged acts or omission of the housestaff are within the scope of the educational program.

Medical / Dental / Life Insurance
Medical and dental insurance are provided without charge. A term life insurance policy is also provided without cost.

Parking
All residents are provided free parking in a parking lot adjacent to the hospital. Travel between the medical center campus and the parking lot is facilitated via an overhead pedestrian bridge that connects the two.
