Our philosophy

Our goal is to produce confident, well-informed, caring physicians who are more than prepared for the challenges of outpatient primary care, hospitalist medicine for patients of all ages, or subspecialty training in any Pediatric, Internal Medicine, or Combined Internal Medicine and Pediatric fellowship program.

Our primary training site, LAC+USC Medical Center, is a 600-bed public teaching hospital associated with the Keck School of Medicine of the University of Southern California. It is located in Boyle Heights, a neighborhood of East Los Angeles. We see incredible pathology and get excellent clinical training through a well-integrated curriculum.

One of the recurring themes among residents in our program is that we are “mission driven,” meaning that we all share a sense of wanting to care for the underserved. We care for some of the most vulnerable patients in the country.  We are looking for applicants with a focus on patient advocacy and a strong interest in serving the underserved.
